PE Agenda For November 29-December 3

The eighth grade will complete their second quarter in PE either November 29 or 30, respectively.  The sixth grade will start their second quarter December 2 or 3, respectively.  The sixth grade journals are due the first class and Mr. Roseman will also be here to talk about health concepts.  We are opening up the gym between 7:00 and 7:30 on Tuesdays and offer different activities to the middle school kids with the help of Mr. Roseman and myself.  The students will have some options on choices of activities.  Mr. Roseman will also bring different guests in from time to time such as a rumba instructor.  We will have our sixth session this coming Tuesday (November 30) from 7:00-7:30 am in the gym.  We had our best turnout yet on Tuesday November 23.  Middle school students should wear PE clothes, regardless if they have PE on Tuesday or not, if they choose to come.

Third grade (Norman homeroom), fourth grade, and fifth grade homerooms are all at different points of basketball units.  We have been learning about ball-handling, dribbling, and have started to work on proper shooting technique.  We will also work on man-to-man defensive technique as well.  This will be the last full week that students in fourth and fifth grades have PE in the second quarter.  Students will be practicing for the Christmas Program beginning Wednesday December 8 during normal Unified Arts time in the mornings.

Mrs. Elliot’s class is still working on a volleyball unit, focusing on bumping and setting using proper technique.

Miss O’Neal’s class will work on moving to music and relay races.

Kindergarten and first grade are working on units with throwing and catching overhand.

Pre-school will start to work on learning how to throw (underhand) and catch beanbags with a partner.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

This Week's Agenda

The eighth grade will continue our Health unit with Mr. Roseman, focusing on better choices we can make with eating foods.  We tried foods in class this week that could be healthier alternatives than what we might be eating now.  We will still work on Physical Education during our time as well. We will have our fifth session this coming Tuesday (November 23) from 7:00-7:30 am in the gym.  We are looking for more participation—we have only had 2 participants each of the four weeks so far.  Middle school students should wear PE clothes, regardless if they have PE on Tuesday or not, if they choose to come.  The band students will meet for PE on Tuesday from 7:50-8:25 and should wear gym clothes to school and bring their school uniform with them.  Choir students will go with Mrs. Simms to practice before Mass.  We are doing this because we had an oversight in the original Unified Arts schedule and we did not account for Mass on Tuesday, so it will allow the band students to have PE for five classes, instead of 4.  Also, a reminder that sixth grade students should be working on their journaling five days of a seven day period for the second quarter and the seventh grade is working on the same thing for the start of the third quarter.

We will play some Thanksgiving games with the younger grades.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Third, fourth, and fifth grades will continue a basketball unit this week, passing and shooting.  Our goal is to be able to play games before Christmas in class.

Mrs. Elliot’s class (2/3 split) will continue to work on a volleyball unit focusing on bumping the ball the proper way (not swinging arms and using our legs as our main power source).  We will also work on setting the proper way.

Second grade (O’Neal) will have a class quiz on their kickball unit.  We hope to review the information that we learned within the unit—covering different situations, the positions, rules, etc.

This Week's PE Agenda

The seventh grade’s last day of PE for the second quarter will be on Monday (November 8 for General Music) or Tuesday (November 9) for Band/Choir.  We will do our journaling again this quarter and the due dates will be Monday January 3 for the General Music and Tuesday January 4 for Band/Choir  The eighth grade will start their second quarter for PE on Thursday (November 11) for Band/Choir and Friday (November 12) for General Music. We will have our third session this coming Tuesday (November 9) from 7:00-7:30 am in the gym.  Middle school students should wear PE clothes, regardless if they have PE on Tuesday or not, if they choose to come.

Third, fourth, and fifth grades will continue a basketball unit this week, focusing on dribbling the proper way, under control.  We will be working on both our strong hand and our weak hand, so we can become better at both.  Some of the classes are ready to start passing this week.

Mrs. Elliot’s class (2/3 split) will continue to work on a volleyball unit focusing on bumping the ball the proper way (not swinging arms and using our legs as our main power source).  We also hope to start setting this week as well.

Second grade (O’Neal) will continue to work on our kickball unit.  We will play kickball games and teaching points may be interjected during the games.  This will be our final week for kickball.  The main goals are to have each student understand what they should do with the ball if it comes to them while they are on defense (in the field)—depending on the situation and to watch the ball while they are on offense (kicking team)—especially while they are on the bases, to know and understand if they need to run or not.

First grade will start a throwing and catching unit focusing on hand-eye coordination.  We will work with overhand and underhand throwing.

Kindergarten will continue to work on throwing and catching overhand.  We will continue to throw with a partner this week.

Preschool will finish going sideways over the balance beam.

Have a Great Weekend and Go Colts!
